Stories About Skin is a powerful new podcast series from the Spot Diagnosis Podcast team that explores the human side of skin conditions, combining compelling personal stories from patients with up-to-date expert insights and information from clinicians.

The first 2-part episode focuses on eczema, a common and chronic skin disease affecting up to 30% of children and 10% of adults to varying degrees.  

Host Kim Wilson skilfully guides the conversation, drawing on her interviewing expertise to ask probing questions and facilitate a dynamic dialogue between the patients and clinicians.

DR SUSAN ROBERTSON

Dr Susan Robertson is a specialist dermatologist and a Fellow of the Australasian College of Dermatologists who has been in practice since 2011. She competed a fellowship in her special interest areas of paediatric dermatology and genetic skin diseases based at the prestigious St John’s Institute of Dermatology and the Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children in London.

Dr Robertson has expertise in both adult and paediatric dermatology and is a visiting consultant dermatologist at the Royal Children’s Hospital, The Royal Melbourne Hospital and Monash Medical Centre public hospitals where she is actively involved in clinical research activities and teaching.

A/PROF ROSS KING

A/Prof Ross King is a clinical psychologist with over 30 years’ experience in private practice, university teaching and public mental health settings. Within his role as an Associate Professor at Cairn-Millar Institute and previously at Deakin University academic, he been involved in the training and supervision of over 500 clinical and general psychologists as well as being a provider of numerous workshops to registered psychologists across Australia.

His PhD research was on the impact of psychological factors on atopic dermatitis with the central study being cited more than 150 times.

KIM WILSON

Kim Wilson is a freelance journalist and content creator with more than 25 years’ experience in news, features and lifestyle reporting. She worked at The Herald Sun for 17 years, while also providing expert commentary on network news and radio.

Dr Saurabh Prakash trained in Anatomical Pathology at Geelong, Western and Royal Melbourne Hospitals and was awarded Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Pathologists in 2008. He subsequently held specialist appointments at Royal Melbourne Hospital, Western Health and Melbourne Pathology

In 2018, Dr Prakash was successful in the ICDP-UEMS Board Certifying Examination for Special Qualification in Dermatopathology and has also completed a Professional certificate in Dermatoscopy for Pathologists. He is a member of the American Society of Dermatopathology and Australasian Dermatopathology Society.

At Melbourne Pathology his practice is exclusively in the field of dermatopathology, working collaboratively with dermatologists, plastic surgeons and skin cancer specialists.

Dr Prakash was appointed Director of Histopathology in June 2020

A/Prof Laura Scardamaglia is the head of dermatology at Western Health, head of clinical services at the Royal Melbourne Hospital (RMH), and consultant dermatologist at the Royal Children’s Hospital. She leads the immunobullous and oral mucosal clinic at RMH, and has special interests in complex medical dermatology, autoimmune and connective tissue diseases, vascular anomalies and multidisciplinary care.

DR SIMONE BELOBROV

Following graduation from the Melbourne Dental School with Honours, Simone commenced work as a general dental practitioner and practiced in both public and private sectors. 

She has always had a passion for oral medicine and pathology since her undergraduate studies. This led to her completing her PhD in the field of Oral Medicine in addition to her Doctorate in Clinical Dentistry (Oral Medicine). Simone is a registered Dentist and Oral Medicine Specialist under the Dental Board of Australia and AHPRA. 

Simone has a special interest in mucosal diseases and management of chronic orofacial pain. She is passionate about research and continues to be involved in teaching at the Melbourne Dental School, The University of Melbourne. Her research has been published in peer-reviewed journals and presented at international conferences.

Tony Hall is a clinical dermatologist in Geelong, Australia. After graduating from Monash University, he completed his Fellowship with Royal Australian College of General Practitioners. After working for 14 years in general medical practice Tony commenced training in dermatology and completed his Fellowship with the Australasian College of Dermatologists. His clinical interests include medical and genital dermatology while teaching medical students, dermatology trainees, family physicians and other specialist colleagues. Tony is senior dermatologist to Male Genital Dermatology Clinic at Skin Health Institute, Carlton and Associate Professor, School of Medicine, Deakin University. His textbook “Atlas of Male Genital Dermatology” was published in 2019 (Springer Nature Switzerland AG) and later also translated into Portuguese.

Emma is a general dermatologist with a specialist interest in vulval skin disorders. She works in the multidisciplinary vulval clinic at the Royal Women’s Hospital as well as seeing women with vulval conditions in private practice.

DR HONG TRAN

Dr Hong Tran is a female obstetrician and gynaecologist at Epworth Freemasons.

Hong completed her medical degree at Melbourne University, and trained in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the Women’s Hospital. She was the Principal Registrar of the Women’s Hospital for two years, and has a broad range of experience in all areas of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. Hong is passionate in women’s health research, and has previously been awarded a prestigious Young Investigator Award, and also a Victorian Travelling Fellowship in heavy menstrual bleeding.

Paul Johnson is an Infectious Diseases Physician trained at Austin Health, Fairfield Infectious Diseases Hospital and the Royal Children’s Hospital. In July 2020 Paul was seconded from Austin Health to DHHS (now Department of Health) to assist with the control of COVID 19 during the infamous Second Wave. During July and August 2020 Paul was instrumental in creating 6 new regional public health units in Victoria and in December was appointed inaugural Director of NEPHU (North Eastern Public Health Unit) – one of three new COVID focused metropolitan units.
